Are we allowed to talk about it off of the server?

I don't see any reason why we wouldn't be able to. But as far as I know that would rest upon the shoulders of those running whatever location you're talking about (I'm guessing you're talking about here, but what ever :p)

(Unless of course, someone knows better then I?)

You could also simply not talk about it to heed what SpaceDog asked, but I don't even know if he was saying never talk of it anywhere, or just not on the IRC server.

Well, it's normal that SDoG couldn't talk about any kind of terms any setllement that may or may not have been reached. But it's interesting that he feels it necessary to gag the rest of us as well. It would be crazy ass terms of settlement that no one could talk about it on his server. I mean, none of us signed anything.

Mind you, I don't advocate we try and push him on it. I'm sure its a pretty gregged situation already.

I doubt you'd have to have signed anything, it's not like you could take him to court over an IRC server. At least I hope not...

Not that it affects me, since I don't use Hypermutt. I feel vindicated.

S'far as I know, there's nothing to stop us from talking about it here; ZZ owns these forums, and I'm damned sure ZZ hasn't signed anything and nor have the rest of us. Hypothetically, maybe SpaceDog could be held responsible for stuff said on his IRC network, but on something with which he is in no way affiliated?

Anyways.

DRAMA.

Yeah exactly FOAM-E.

And Solaris, I'm mostly just curious what kind of settlement precludes OTHER people talking about something in a venue owned by a claimant. Its weird, etc.

my thinking is whatever settlement or decision was reached included a gag order that would say : you must not discuss this, and must not use any of your resources to facilitate discussion: be it directly or indirectly

Well, there is the possibility that he could ban us for talking about it over here since it's his IRC server and all. Which is why I asked. :P

he could, but not forced to for legal reasons. As it is a private establishment he has the right to ban for whatever reason he wants provided it isnt for being a member of a protected class (and even then its not hard to circumnavigate)

The "sorry but I have to do it" line is probably where the theory he's being legally pushed into this comes from.

I'm not afraid to talk about it-- but, really, we don't have any hard facts that I'm aware of. My theory is that the whole VJ/SpaceDog stuff finally ended, and this is as a result of that.

Good luck with getting details from 'dog, though.

No? There was a legal battle over the Hypermutt name and the hypermutt.com domain name.

THere are many days whn I disagree with SDoG, but we can both agree that VJ is a ponies douchebag piece of rainbowssss paranoid lying tool.

Yours and mine both, Sphere. Though, given Icy's past involvement in IRC, I got wind of most of the drama, including some rather unflattering logs from VJ and others.

I can understand VJ's stance, to an extent, but then again, I think he could have handled it with a little more professionalism, compassion and...maturity.

In any case, there were numerous communication problems with many of the parties involved; I don't entirely blame VJ. Even some folks I consider my friends didn't handle the situation all that well.

Ok, that's piqued my interest. Will anyone let their balls drop and actually explain what was going on?

I don't know the precise details of why, but VJ and SpaceDog have been fighting over the rights to the hypermutt domain name for years; as I recall, it was SpaceDog that admined the IRC stuff but the physical servers were VJs.

There was an epic spitting match on the forums that wound up with the official TDZK channel sticking with 'Dog when he shifted servers, and then VJ took legal action, if memory serves.
